Becca’s Story:
I’m married to Nathaniel Staley, class of 2000 and we have been living in NY since 2005. We have one daughter, Paige, born September of 2006, and one son, Gehrig, born March of 2007. I currently work for Democracy Now, an independent television and radio show that is broadcasted on over 700 stations in North America and around the world. I currently switch-direct the hour long broadcast. Before Democracy Now, I freelanced for a short time at WPIX 11 in NYC. Prior to that I spent almost 2 years at the then start-up , KLRT FOX 16, in Little Rock, Arkansas (it began its 9pm newscast in March of 2004). There I was the Weekend Director/Technical Director, but I also took on the titles of Graphic Artist, Chyron/Still Store Operator, etc. Prior to Little Rock, I worked in Toledo at WTVG-TV as a Weekend Director and at BCSN-TV (Buckeye Cable Sports Network) as a Director and Graphics Artist.
My favorite BG24 Memories include..
- (of course) Meeting my husband Nathaniel
- Marisa (Paolercio) Leslie and Kelly Burgess pushing me to become a director as early as my freshman year, way before I knew that it was what I wanted to do, now it is all I want to do.
-Shopping for chroma key blue paint with Ted Siller when we had to repaint the Weather Wall
-Arguing with Dan Spehler and Nick Paine about everything.
-All night edit sessions of the blooper reel with Kevin Tennant and Sara Campola. (Black ICE and the Paper Shuffle!!!)
-Friday's at BW3s, Tuesda's at BW3s after softball, and Wednesdays at BW3s for Karaoke. That's a lot of BW3s and a lot of Petrifiers…
-BG24 Intramural Softball. Craig Scott and Rick DiLuciano were the best coaches! One highlight in particular that stands out is Doug Whitmire catching a softball with his mouth while sliding into third.
-And who can forget the parties! Especially Marisa and Kelly's last Halloween party where Kelly and I had to drag an extremely drunk Phil Prusa dressed up like Kari Howard across the parking lot and up the stairs to Nathaniel's apartment.
I'm proud to say I have followed in Marisa and Kelly's footsteps in singling out one freshman and pushing them to become a director and member of the executive board. That would be none other than our wonderful webmaster, Kevin Tennant.
I always like to encourage new students to get all they can out of BG24 News. Experience is important, but so are the people you meet, the world of television is very small and you never know who may help you get that dream job.
